Getting an MRI can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. At Gateway, we make your MRI experience a great one! MRI, or Magnetic Resonance Imaging, is a unique type of scan that gives medical providers an inside look at, well, your insides. Using strong magnetic fields, pictures are taken using a special machine than provides insight into what’s behind your symptoms. MRI differs from a CT scan (which uses x-ray imaging) and can highlight a different set of answers to medical questions.
Whether your MRI is ordered because of a visit to our Immediate Care, or by your doctor, MRI at Gateway is as easy as 1-2-3.
Getting an MRI at Gateway
First, you’ll receive an order from your doctor for your MRI. If your MRI is ordered at an Immediate Care visit, we’ll handle all the details to get you scheduled. Even if your doctor is outside of the Hancock Health system, all of our low-cost imaging services including MRI are available to you! Simply ask your doctor to submit your MRI order to Gateway Hancock Health.
Your MRI Appointment
Second, attend your MRI appointment. Scans can last from 15 minutes to 90 minutes, depending on what needs to be accomplished. Taking care not to drink too many fluids beforehand can make this a more comfortable experience. You may be asked to change into a hospital gown, especially if you’re wearing any clothing items with metal in them. You will lie down on the machine bed, and then part or all of your body will enter the machine, depending on the location of the scan.
Getting Your Results
Third, talk with your doctor about your results. Our MRI results are available within 36 hours and will be sent securely to your doctor. If you are a Hancock Health patient, your results will also be available online to you through your HealthConnect Portal. Again, even if your doctor is outside of the Hancock Health system, MRI at Gateway is a great option for receiving this service.
Don’t forget that one of the biggest reasons people love Gateway is because of our low-cost services. MRI and other imaging services average 70% lower in cost than you would pay elsewhere. Now that’s something to get excited about!
If you find yourself in need of an MRI scan, Gateway Hancock Health is here to serve you. We hope to see you soon!
