Low Cost Family Fun

We know that sometimes the weekend feels longer than the work week, especially with young kids that seem to have endless energy. Good thing East Central Indiana has lots of options for low cost family fun that keeps families happy and wallets full.

Love the outdoors? Explore one of Greenfield’s many parks and trails. From the Pennsy Trail to Thornwood Preserve there is an abundance of outdoor space to be discovered. Check out a new playground or spend time in the woods. Whatever your preference, Greenfield delivers!

Does the weather have you in more of an indoor mood? Head on over to the Hancock County Library. Whether you like perusing the shelves or attending one of many free events, we know the library is guaranteed to deliver family fun on every single visit.

If you have a hankering for history, check out the Riley Home to learn about “The Hoosier Poet”, James Whitcomb Riley. You can meander by yourself or take a guided tour. If you are stuck at home with sick littles and need some mental stimulation, you can even take a virtual tour! 

Moving on to Muncie, you can immerse yourself in magic at the Minnetrista Museum and Gardens. Right now they are hosting the Bob Ross Experience where you can find out all about the artist’s life and work. 

We can’t mention Muncie without talking about the Muncie Children’s Museum. Geared toward young ones, this is a great place for hands-on fun! Each month the museum offers a free admission Saturday. You can also host events like birthday parties at the museum. 

If your family enjoys out-of-the-box fun, then you’ll love visiting the World’s Largest Ball of Paint. It’s exactly like what it sounds like, but you’ll have to see it to believe it. (Please note that visits are by appointment only.)

Last but not least, we love the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame. Particularly appealing as the madness of March descends on us (and always appropriate for sports lovers) this museum highlights the greats of Indiana basketball fame. Come see your favorite player’s jersey or see all the players from your favorite school.
